V&A Dundee on the city’s waterfront is Scotland’s first dedicated design museum and the only V&A museum outside London. Opened in 2018, the striking building was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and inspired by the cliffs of Scotland’s east coast. Its architecture has become a landmark in Dundee’s waterfront regeneration. The museum explores design from Scotland and around the world, with the permanent Scottish Design Galleries presenting furniture, fashion, architecture and other examples of Scottish creativity. Changing exhibitions bring wider themes and international designers into the museum, alongside talks, workshops and other events.
