Museum MACAN

Jakarta’s first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art puts Indonesia’s art scene in a global conversation. Museum MACAN opened in 2017, founded by businessman and art collector Haryanto Adikoesoemo, with a collection that brings Indonesian artists together with major international figures. The museum’s collection includes paintings, sculpture, installations and new media, spanning Indonesian art from the 19th century to the present alongside international works. Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol and Gerhard Richter appear alongside artists from Indonesia and Southeast Asia, while changing exhibitions introduce new perspectives on contemporary art.
