The Museum Barberini in Potsdam occupies a reconstructed 18th-century palace overlooking the Alter Markt. Opened in 2017, it was established by entrepreneur and art collector Hasso Plattner, whose collection forms the basis of the museum. The building’s historic appearance was recreated after the original palace was destroyed during the Second World War. The museum is particularly known for its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, with works by Monet, Renoir, Manet, Cézanne and Berthe Morisot. Its exhibitions often bring these works into dialogue with international loans, while the museum regularly explores different themes and artists beyond its core collection.
