Narbo Via brings the Roman city of Narbo Martius back into view through archaeological finds from ancient Narbonne in southern France. Founded in 118 BC, the city became an important centre of Roman Gaul. The museum’s collection includes mosaics, painted wall decorations, inscriptions and architectural remains that reveal its urban life, trade and public buildings. A striking feature is the monumental wall of around 760 stone blocks, many originating from Roman funerary monuments. Designed by Foster + Partners, the museum also uses 3D reconstructions to help visitors understand the city and its ancient port. Narbo Via is part of a public cultural institution that also manages the underground Roman galleries of the Horreum and the Gallo-Roman pottery site of Amphoralis.
