A dark, basalt-clad cube stands out among the historic buildings of Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. Inside, mumok explores how artists have challenged conventions through modern and contemporary art, from Pop Art and Viennese Actionism to conceptual and experimental works. Its collection includes works by Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg and other influential artists, alongside changing exhibitions that question how art reflects society. The building, designed by Ortner & Ortner, opened in 2001 and offers a striking contrast between the museum’s bold architecture and the former imperial stables around it.
