Founded in 1849, Kunstmuseum Bern is one of Switzerland’s oldest art museums, with a collection spanning the late Middle Ages to contemporary art. Its galleries bring together Swiss masters such as Ferdinand Hodler and Albert Anker with international artists including Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and Meret Oppenheim. The collection ranges from medieval paintings and Impressionism to Cubism, Expressionism and modern art. Highlights include Oppenheim’s surrealist works, paintings by Paul Cézanne and pieces by Swiss artist Adolf Wölfli. Located in the heart of Bern, the museum connects the region’s artistic heritage with major movements in international art.
