Katherine Mansfield House

A small Wellington house became the childhood home of one of New Zealand’s best-known writers. Katherine Mansfield House preserves the birthplace of Katherine Mansfield, who lived here with her family from 1888 to 1893 before going on to become an influential modernist writer. The restored house gives a glimpse into middle-class life in colonial New Zealand, with period furniture, personal objects and displays about Mansfield’s family and literary career. The surrounding garden adds another layer to the visit, with plants and features reflecting the environment Mansfield would have known as a child.
