Gemäldegalerie

The Gemäldegalerie in Berlin is one of the world’s leading collections of European paintings from the 13th to 18th centuries. Part of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, it opened in its current form in 1998 at the Kulturforum, where the architecture was designed to keep the focus firmly on the paintings. The collection includes masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Titian, Caravaggio, Rubens and Raphael, alongside works by German, Italian, Flemish, Dutch and Spanish masters. Rather than following a single national tradition, the galleries reveal the development of European painting across centuries, making connections between artists, regions and artistic movements.
