Charles H. Wright Museum

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit explores the history, culture and contributions of African Americans. Founded in 1965 by physician Charles H. Wright, the museum has grown into one of the largest institutions of its kind in the United States. Its collection contains more than 35,000 artefacts, documents and other objects, spanning African American history from the transatlantic slave trade to the present day. Visitors can explore exhibitions on slavery, the Underground Railroad, the Civil Rights Movement, the Great Migration, African American art and Detroit’s role in Black history and culture.
