Albertina

ViennaAustria

Albertina

The Albertina occupies one of Vienna’s most distinctive historic settings, with its galleries extending through the former Habsburg residential palace above the Hofburg. Founded as an art collection in 1776, it became a public museum in the 19th century and is particularly renowned for works on paper. Its collection contains around one million prints and drawings, including masterpieces by Dürer, Klimt, Schiele, Cézanne and Picasso. The museum also holds important photography and modern art collections, while its historic State Rooms preserve the atmosphere of the former palace. Major exhibitions regularly bring works from the Albertina’s collections together with international loans.
